The Pensions Act 2014 requires the State Pension Age to be reviewed at least once every 6 years, this being the first. The review is looking at the period after April 2028, when the State Pension Age increases to age 67. The Government announced in the Autumn Statement (2013) that the increase in State Pension Age to age 68 is likely to come forward from the current date of 2046 to the mid-2030s and is likely to increase further to age 69 by the late 2040s. The review could reflect, or even accelerate, this timetable. A final report with recommendations will be published in January 2017, with the Government announcing the outcome before 7 May 2017.
